New Gadget - it’s a Curve

Filed under: Misc. — darryl @ 10:39 pm

Been sold, have the t-shirt and yes I have my new Blackberry Curve.

So not really one to get too hung up over phones it was a tough call on whether to wait and try an iPhone or not. I love the ‘play’ factor with the iPhone, but wasn’t fully convinced it was going to replace my old wee Blackberry as a functioning email device over here in Australia just yet.

If you have seen any of my odd frustrated Tweets about my slowly dying old Blackberry you would know it was time to replace or pull all my hair out. The curve site uses “Brains and Beauty” as the tag lines, of which I have few of either, so I just hoped it had enough for the both of us!

Gotta say I am afraid it does.

On the plane to Sydney earlier in the week, my neighbour (seat next to me), had one and with a couple of quick questions I got my hands onto his Curve (keep it clean) and was sold. Had to have one!

Now I do!

So expecting a lot of buyers remorse for rushing in and getting one, so far I have none.

Switched my SIM card to it, auto activated itself. Hit email config, asked me if I wanted to re-associate my blackberry mail service to the new one - done!

Hmm I found a flaw, like always I wasn’t saving my Address book to the SIM card, bugger. Aha - bright idea, I had synchronised my old BB to outlook why not just reverse it to this one.

Worked first time, everything in my new address book! 2 minutes done!

It is a very easy to use phone / smart phone, the ball wheel on the main panel I like over the side track wheel. Had my play, but needed to go home, jumped in the car, 30 seconds later the Curve was paired to my Bluetooth Speakerphone and I was off.

Flipped the switch on the speaker phone and suddenly the voice calling assistant on my Curve asked me who I wanted to call - wow, very nice. Said the name, matched it first time and dialled my bud, so I could start the whole Gadget envy spiel!

There is always something nice about being the first amongst your group to get a new gadget. Of course they usurp you at some point with something better, but you get your week or two of fun.

So far I have easily logged into my Twitter account, it is so fast and remembers the details, not sure I will need to SMS to tweet anymore. I have added the FB app, which delivers message updates just like the email client does, and browsed most websites with ease and speed!

Even logged into our Browser based CRM (yeah Ireckon BT) and without it having a dedicated M(mobile) version I was accessing contact records within seconds, and the Curve browser automatically interpretted phone numbers so I could 1-click them and call people. Now that was the nicest bit so far.

More to come ireckon, but I am impressed. Go the Curve!
