Qld Leaders Oct 08

Well this month I had to come back from my holiday camping at the beach for the Qld Leaders monthly meeting. Always a shame to interrupt a good holiday but unfortunately there wasn’t a day without an interruption, so was a break if not a holiday.

Being committed to the 12 month process, there was no option of not going.

Presentations this month were:

Suncorp – Rod Davies

Wesley Corporate Health – Neil Holt

Gibsons JBS – Paul Dignam

The session started with a lot of the information about the current bank / financial crises, and progressed through executive health programs to planning. All very good presentations. They had me thinking each in their own ways.

The health one probably hit home hardest, was well delivered, and having made a conscious choice last year to fix my leg even though work suffered a bit for it, the decision is now paying off in droves with my increased health and fitness.

Statement of most interest: “No medical reason why we shouldn’t be the same weight as when we left high school, or near after”. Got me and a number of the other participants looking around at each other. Bit of work required there.

Mentoring sessions were a mixed bag. But you learn something every time even in the ones that don’t gel so much.

The evening session was again interesting speeches, David Millhouse set the pace and all the other speakers kept the pace moving along. Ended up having a good chat with Gary Carroll of SupercheapAutos. Fascinating how quickly they are growing and how they research their markets.

I dig hearing how others work their business.

1 more left for this year, the Premier, Anna Bligh, speaking at that one, which could be interesting. Hopefully not as biased and one-eyed as Wayne Swan’s address earlier in the year.

Got a stack of todos now just to add to the ones I have left over from last month. Going to catch up this month!

PS> Every month I ask at least 1 other person there if they know of twitter, from 20 somethings to 60 somethings still no takers. Lots of blank looks.
