Teamwork is a great thing to watch

Last night we (ireckon) were part of #bnetwestival (The Brisbane Twestival), which was a great bunch of young (and some not so young) Volunteers pitching themselves together to get a result for someone else.

What motivates people, already busy and challenged enough, to have 4 weeks to plan a public event designed to raise money for charity with a budget of zero?

I can’t answer that, they all have their own motivations, but big Hat Tip to Greg (@lexiphanic), Nicole (@nicolejensen), Kate (@kateedwards), Nic (@nicodonnell) and all the other tweeps who are a bit too numerous to mention. There will be a credit roll sometime over next few days from @bnetwestival.

These folk did it just because! What have you done recently to help others just because?

For me there was a lot more teamwork happening.

Have I said it already or not? I have an awesome team AT ireckon (no not @ireckon that’s just me). We are seriously busy as it is, and in the last few weeks my crew have banded together for 2 after hours events (cockroach races) and last night’s #bnetwestival.

On the night Warwick (@adesignapart), Vanessa (@fly401) and Emily (@emily_elliott) were the people actually making it happen. Huge thanks to you. But for everyone out front there are always those to whom accolades don’t go, behind the scenes.

Other staff worked over the last few weeks to create the live micro site, add plugins at last minutes notice etc. and Dave (@cansy) would have been there if not for family matters.

These people do  it every day, some for a very long time, and for me it is really all just about them and what great work they do for others, that keeps me coming in.

We failed a little yesterday though, one of our own left after 4.5 years guiding the good ship ireckon around, and we had saved tonight, as the night to celebrate her involvement and tell her “Thanks”. But in our rush to meet our deadlines we missed out on the fact she needed some TLC after leaving her second home of so long. She needed it yesterday on her time, not when we planned it.

So publicly to Narelle (@brandinator) we wouldn’t be who we are without you and your great efforts. You will do well wherever you go, we will miss you and everyone will see you tonight to celebrate (not mourn) you moving on to better things for you. We salute you. You have been very much part of our team. You are one of those people often in the background doing all the little things that others forget about, but that matter! You matter to us!

Teams matter. People matter. Teams are just people working together for a purpose.

In the last couple of weeks I have been privileged to be involved with some great teams.

Well that’s just what ireckon!
