6 hours, twitter, a #spill, a spare domain and a bit of fun

It started at almost the close of business yesterday.

Our sysadmin came to me with an idea he was sure I would hate. Keep in mind he doesn’t really use twitter much, he is one of the few in our office who don’t, but what I love about my crew is they don’t limit themselves with closed minds about things just because they don’t use something.

He reckoned we could have a mug shot of me on our site, with a speech bubble on it that people could tweet at and the tweet would show in the speech bubble. He thought it would be nifty and fast and would be an extension of what we do on our site.

As many who know me would realise, throwing an idea at me just raises the chance of me finding some twisted variation and running hard with it.

And so You Reckon was born!

So 5 people, 1 changed concept and away we went.

By 11pm last night the site was live.

We used the #spill twitter hashtag to kick it off, and the first Youreckon is of Malcolm Turnbull and Tony Abbott.

Basically you send a tweet to @whatyoureckon with one of 2 hash tags in it, and it goes into their speech bubbles.

Bit of fun? Yes. Something more than that? Maybe. It gained traction almost immediately, and overnight has continued to add a few tweets and plenty of viewers.

This is the current web way though. Fast, furious and very very agile! Ideas need to be developed quickly, tested and extended.

This week we will fit in some changes to this to do a couple more things with the idea.

I can see another great reckon debate looming!

Hats off to my crew, they bought into the concept – had fun doing it. the design and functionality works just like it should after a 15 minute briefing session.
