the ireckon amazing race wrap up #irace

After keeping it a complete secret, I set up the staff to compete in an amazing race around Brisbane CBD and close surrounds (detail here). The Twitter stream was recorded using the hash tag #irace
It was a stinking hot day (33 deg C) and extremely humid. This didn’t bode well, given I couldn’t tell them enough to prepare for the event.
In my mind they would cleverly work their way through the clues, use their cash wisely and find the simplest way to each destination. They knew there was some sort of prize but not what it was.
What transpired was fantastic. To watch the competitive nature of the teams take over and each group working their butts off to try and beat each other was awesome. I intended it to be a little unique and a lot of fun. One team ran from the Valley across the Story Bridge down to the hotel and nearly got in first. That was team yellow who ultimately won, albeit not by much.
Another time I rang team pink to update them and all I could hear was 4 blokes running. They had to put up with a whole lot of grief in another way (unfortunate bigotry) but gave it everything to try and win.
There was some awesome participation by people around Brisbane who were needed to help the teams complete their race, and this added a whole other dimension to it.
I know at the end there were a lot of tired sweaty bodies, with very sore feet, so we made our way to the final destination (after a pit stop) and settled in for a night at the Chalk Hotel to eat and drink.
I bet there were some sore feet today but hopefully it was fun for all involved. I enjoyed putting it together and watching it unfold.
