Maunsell Haulage drivers should be shamed

Rant time. Name and shame time!

get back fools

get back fools

On Saturday driving up the Bruce Highway, along with many other holiday-makers, I saw an absolute tragedy in the making. Keep in mind that when you are towing a big camping rig, you tend to be ever vigilant and a lot steadier in decision making than others, but none the less it was ridiculous.

Two different examples of shocking driving that could so easily have lead to tragedy.

It was only two days before on that a fatal truck smash occurred just north of where we were (involving a truck).

Two Maunsell Haulage trucks were tailgating each other and traffic in front of them. Traveling at over the 100km/hr limit, the two large trucks (one of them had a trailer) weaved, as if sports cars, between all three lanes, vying for a better position. We have all seen cars doing it, however this was crazy as it was twenty meters or more of heavy trucks, and the tailing truck would have been less than five metres from the truck in front.

Even worse, the lead truck ended up tailgating numerous cars, trying to bully them out of the way, and at one point next to us, was three metres maximum from a small 2 door car that would have been flattened without doubt had there been a need to stop in a hurry.

We hear how truck drivers feel unfairly blamed for accidents and that people weave around them. I see all too regularly large vehicles tailgating cars with no chance of them ever being able to stop under emergency. The two drivers involved in the driving  I saw should be shamed and brought to some form of company hearing. They could so easily have created another tragedy it was ridiculous. I would like to think they were incapable of realising what they were doing, but seriously in this day and age they can only be classed as morons!

If you know anyone at Maunsell Haulage tell them two drivers on Sat 20 Dec, 2009 just before 9am travelling up the Bruce Highway need a BIG discussion about their driving habits!

The second effort was a bus. Unbelievable that heavy vehicles were the culprits, as them being involved in accidents makes them oh so worse.

The bus belonged to Robinson Racing, and was their crew bus. It was doing the same thing. Speeding through a congested 100 zone, weaving in and about all 3 lanes of traffic, travelling way to close to cars in front.  It looked like it was laden up with gear so obviously the driver uses it as their chance to ‘race about’.

Hey clown, race on the race track. What was even more ludicrous was that when the highway opened up to 110, the bus slowed down and we eventually passed it, sedately driving in the left hand lane. How stupid is that. If you know them tell them the driver was an idiot! Their sponsors were all over their bus too : Crimsafe, Valvoline. I am sure they wouldn’t want to be wrapped around a car on the evening news.

So big Christmas message for 2009: Drive safe idiots. It isn’t like we haven’t all been shown the results. If you are on the road drive safe, stay way back, don’t weave about. Live to see next year.

Well that’s what ireckon anyway!
