Education is meant to be about learning
Today, the launch of the My School website occurred.
It was heavily promoted, and given how controversial the scoring system and the way schools can be compared has been, it was always going to be a pretty obvious heavy first day of usage.
It was very disappointing (albeit a little expected) to see that the site has suffered under the load today.
This government (of course any government) wants to dictate to Australians how their technology should be delivered and are preaching their credentials far and wide, delivering a National Broadband Network (don’t hold your breath),The great Conroy Censorship Filter, and computers to every school child.
One would hope that they might build some credibility first, and learn to use technology properly.
Julia Gillard, our Education Minister should perhaps use the principles of our education system to research what has already been done before and then use those lessons to improve how they deliver. One only has to look to the Twitter Fail Whale to learn about what high load is and how it can be handled.
Over the last 2 weeks the Australian Open has been able too continue to deliver under a load of similar size, quite possibly much bigger given the international appeal, and without any major glitch. They have learned what is needed, they have engaged with companies and technology that can deliver.
It’s a website, with databases, hardly something revolutionary.
Julia perhaps you need to give your peer, Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, a caning, someone needs to learn how to use technology fast, before it has evolved again.
Well that’s what Ireckon anyway.
PS> An ABC story about it

Oh yeah, totally agree with you on this. Plus have you looked at the code behind just the front page – What the?
Looks like Senator Conroy isn’t the only one to feel the strap
