New Gadget - it’s a Curve

Filed under: Misc. — darryl @ 10:39 pm

Been sold, have the t-shirt and yes I have my new Blackberry Curve.

So not really one to get too hung up over phones it was a tough call on whether to wait and try an iPhone or not. I love the ‘play’ factor with the iPhone, but wasn’t fully convinced it was going to replace my old wee Blackberry as a functioning email device over here in Australia just yet.

If you have seen any of my odd frustrated Tweets about my slowly dying old Blackberry you would know it was time to replace or pull all my hair out. The curve site uses “Brains and Beauty” as the tag lines, of which I have few of either, so I just hoped it had enough for the both of us!

Ploy me - it’s a casual thing

Filed under: Business, Misc. — darryl @ 2:55 pm

Recently spoke with one of the founders of Ployme a newish site for managing casual work for people around Australia (for now).

Very cool idea and very clever way of dealing with this space. I am sure there are a bunch of businesses in hospitality and other areas that will find this v.good for their staffing needs, as well as all the people who want to pick up shifts around the place and just need 1 place to go to sort it all out.

No ploy this one! It’s the real deal!

A Beacon that lights the way for Australian Youth

Filed under: Business, Misc. — darryl @ 7:34 pm

Today I was privileged enough to speak at the Beacon Foundation’s QLD State Conference.
The Beacon Foundation http://www.beaconfoundation.net/ has a very simple strategy for youth in Australia.

They work directly with schools to educate / help students get into further education but ultimately real jobs.

Their NO Dole program is exceptional and has been running now for 12 years and is an example of how businesses, people and private industry have the power to improve the lives of others.

I was invited to speak because Ireckon has been providing services and assistance to Beacon for 5 years, and the segment I attended was how the schools could engage and interact with businesses better. Other speaks included Dean from Merlo Coffee, and Troy and Lucy from Treasury Casino.

Do they really care?

Filed under: Business Travel, Misc., eat your own dog food — darryl @ 10:41 pm

Do people actually care out there?

Are we all so busy that pride, focus, detail don’t matter any more? I know i have better days than others at taking care of the important details but the more places I look the more I see less attention to detail not more.

Is that what good - no I mean - really fantastic - service is? Just attention to detail? Is that what a good product is - something that has good attention to details and focus.

We are in the business of software, and it’s many intangibles, so I know how hard it can be to really make something fool proof, perfect and the best. In online speak there can’t be any perfect tool or product because as soon as our latest widget is released someone out there in cyber space has already hacked up a better product or widget.

But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try or care to do the best? Of course we should - we must!

What’s my point… well back on the road again the last few weeks and here is my summary of some of the things that ireckon could / should be different (in my mind anyway):
