Round the world in 21 days

Having recently returned from a 3 week international business trip it always feels great to be back home.

I know everyone says this, well most do, and for each person home is quite different. For me Australia is my home, even though not my birth country. I have lived and traveled through many countries in the world, and in some places I find it hard to see why people rush to get back there when there appear to be many problems or issues in that country.

I guess it is easy to be critical looking in from outside, and in my opinion, it is easy for us in Australia to criticize other countries. Heck we have huge land area, small population, limited exposure to some of the crowding issues that affect many countries and cities.

It is interesting how quickly we accept what we have grown into to be better than others and not really see it from their perspective. There must be something in it else why would they feel as they do.

I love visiting America and there are so many differences in different regions, yet having lived there before would not be in a huge rush to go back. Love to visit, love the friends I have made, but I prefer being here. Much the same my friends over there love their home towns or where they now work and live.

Whatever the environmental or genetic programming involved , business travel has its ups and downs. I prefer the old days of staying in hostels and sleeping wild , finding bizarre and weird eating houses, versus the bland and tasteless hotel fodder the world over. Hotels are not communities. backpackers hostels are groups of friends you haven’t yet met and adventures yet to begin. I guess back when I was backpacking we just had more time and patience! I also had less reasons to want to rush back home!
